Perfected Test Answers (Unit 2)

Unit 2 — Pre-production & planning skills
LO1 Test

Identify two costs that you may need to consider when developing a new phone app and explain how these costs impact on the project. (6 marks)
One cost could include hiring staff to develop & create the app (i.e. a graphic designer). Staff would be expected to be paid at an hourly rate. If the creators of the product don't already hold the knowledge necessary for making an app then they would have to hire staff such as a graphic designer. This would impact the project as hiring such staff can be relatively expensive and affect their budget.

Another cost could include copyrighting the name of the app, ensuring no one else can use it. This would result in a positive impact on the project as it means no one else can steal the app’s name. However, copywriting can be a lengthy and time consuming process, this can lead to the project being prolonged and delayed.

Identify one act of legislation that is applicable to the creation of a new national newspaper and explain what impact it has. (3 marks)
Data Protection Act (1998) — If a journalist is reporting a story, they must not reveal the persons identity or reveal any information and details that could enable the person to be found (i.e. a home address).

You are offered a job as an apprentice for a company called Align Media. When they offered you the apprenticeship, you were required to sign a form giving the intellectual property rights of any work you produce to Align Media.
Explain why you were required to sign this form. (3 marks)
This was a requirement because Align Media want to keep the work I have created under their company’s name. By signing the document, all rights of what I create go to Align Media, so if I were to stop working for them, I could not use the work that I have produced for them as my own. Signing the document also means I can’t share my ideas with anyone while working for the company as they don't belong to me (according to the contract). Align Media would have made me sign the contract to protect themselves so that other companies cannot steal their content and ideas.

Identify one type of revenue stream that you could consider to make a website a website profitable and explain why this might be an affective method. (3 marks)
AdSense is a type of revenue stream that could make a web sight profitable. This is due to the fact that the programme enables owner of the website to earn money by having advertisers pay them to advertise relevant products on their website. For example, a fashion blog would have a banner advertising a fashion store.

Identify two ethical issues that you would need to consider before your team develops ideas for a documentary on refugees. Explain how these will impact on the project. (8 marks)
One ethical issue could include language barriers. This means the crew would not be able to understand the refugees language which could lead to confusion and poor accuracy. One way in which this would have to be resolved is by hiring a language interpreter. This could impact the project financially as this may be expensive and add extra costs (e.g travel costs, hourly wage, etc.).  This may also impact the project as it may be time consuming to find an interpreter that can speak a specific language that may not be commonly spoken, setting the project back.

Another ethical issue could include the area that the refugees are located in. \this could impact the project as it may be a dangerous location to report in, resulting in the crew being exposed to harmful risks. This would also financially impact the project as they may need to pay for insurance which can be relatively expensive as the crew will consist of multiple people. Members of the crew may also decide to back out if they feel their lives and wellbeing is at risk. This could set the project back as they would need to find new staff and replacements or find a new place to film, resulting in there also being a time cost.
