LO1, LO2 & LO3: Perfected Assessment

1) Explain the client requirements of this brief, outlining which are explicit, implicit, and open to interpretation. (10 marks)
The implicit requirement for this project is the promotional video.
The requirements that are open for interpretation is the duration that the video needs to be (20-40 seconds), the audience its aimed at (ages 8-14), the range of camera angles, shots & movement and the background music that is up-to-date and appeals to children.
The explicit requirements for this project are the minimum of clips (min. of 4), the shots of the target audiences in the street with the product, the name, logo and contact details for the company being in the video, the shots of the footwear range and the completion of the video after 5 weeks (deadline).

2) What logistical issues can you foresee when creating this video? (4 marks)
Filming outside means weather and availability of locations will need to be checked.
Getting child actors to be able to film at appropriate times.
The short length of time given to complete the project (5 weeks).
Finally, the studio time for shots of the range.

3) What potential legal issues will need to be addressed? Outline briefly the impact each one may have on the project and how they might be dealt with (8 marks)
Working with children means the company will need to get permission/a release form from parents. This is because, according to the law, the children cannot be legally used unless a contract is signed.
Contracts will also need to be signed or the children can't be used at all. This is due to the maximum amount of hours a child can legally work for. Once the hours have been determined and agreed to, the rest of the project will have to be planned around this.
Location release forms will need to be considered in order to get permission to film in certain types of areas. If in a public area, then the form is usually signed by the local council. If in a private area, then the form is signed by the owner.
Finally, copyright for music used in the video means the rights to using the music must be requested otherwise the advert may be pulled after it is released.

4) Produce a mind map or mood board exploring how the age of the target audience will impact the design/content of the video (5 marks)
Target audience: Ages 8-14

  • Content must appeal to both male & female children aged 8-14
  • Narrative must be appealing to the target audience
  • Location must be somewhere that appeals to children (playground, fun fair, etc.)
  • Colours should be bright and vibrant as opposed to dull and plain to create a fun and child like effect
  • Music must appeal to children of the target audience
5) Identify two costs associated with filming the advert for Zoo Shoes and explain how these costs impact on the project (4 marks)
Music is a cost as the rights to use certain songs/sounds may be copyrighted so the rights will have to be bought in order to use them.
Transport for cast and crew is another cost as things like car hire, petrol and insurance will all need to be payed for.

6) What market research could be done, and what is one outcome of this market research? (3 marks)
Go to other shoe shops to see how they present and promote their products. The outcome of this would be copying certain techniques and ideas that are already out. May also find a gap in the market or an idea that has not yet been exploited.

7) Identify one type of project management tool that you could use to keep track of the project tasks and explain why it is suitable for this project (3 marks)
One type of project management could be a to do list. This would help keep track of the project as anything that has been completed can be ticked off enabling me to see what is yet to be done. This also helps keep tasks organised and simple as I can clearly see how much progress has been made and what still needs doing.

8) The film needs to be tested before it is sent to the Client for approval. Outline what type of research this is and how you could go about completing this research (3 marks)
Market research includes gathering information on consumers' trends and needs.
Target audience research includes identifying the consumer trends and needs for a specific target audience.

The research can be carried out in many ways such as: preview screenings, questionnaires, feedback and setting up a focus group.
