Target Audience: Profiles

Bluewater Website

Who is it for?
Due to the websites seasonal events and variety of stores and restaurants appealing to both children, adults and teenagers, the website looks like its target audience is typically adults with families and young adults/teenagers.

The website promotes multiple Christmas events such as Santa’s Grotto, iceskating and a post box to Father Christmas, all of which appeal to parents with children.
The website also advertises a John Lewis beauty event and the latest range of Vans trainers, both of which would typically appeal to teenagers and young adults.

Despite being for families, the website is not suited for children due to its sophisticated layout. It is designed to attract adults who have children but not necessarily the children themselves.

The first images that the viewer is greeted by (on the website) are of smiling children, teenagers and adults. This immediately signifies the target audience of the website, as these images would typically appeal to adults with families (e.g parents, grandparents, etc).

Target audience profile for GirsGoGames.com

This is JoJo. She is a typical example of the kind of audience in which the online games website ‘Girls Go Games’ aims to attract.
Due to the websites, stereotypically speaking, ‘girly’ and simplistic theme, it is aimed for young girls aged 7-10 years of age.
As the website is aimed for young girls, it is likely that parents would be monitoring their children online activity. For this reason, the website only contains universally rated and age appropriate games instead of games containing explicit content.

Creating profiles:
  • Profiles are also known as ‘personas’.
  • Profiles are detailed descriptions of users as individuals.
  • Generalising an audience makes it difficult to create engaging content — Profiles help give insight to the users’ needs.

Steps to creating a successful profile:
  • Start with a general target audience description before creating individual profiles.
  • Create a detailed description of one individual (find out name, sex, income, habits, ethnicity, etc)
  • Choose several more people from target audience — If a site is for multiple crowds then make profiles for those crowds (e.g. a revision site will have multiple crowds including teachers, parents and students).
  • Only select a few individuals to represent the group — narrowing it down can give more information at first which will be useful later on.
