Trainspotting Notes

Trainspotting Notes Made 1996 —> very topical at the time it came out. Based in Edinburgh. Budget £3.5m —> mid to low budget film. Directed by Danny Boyle. Originally a novel by Irvin Welsh —> need permission and clearance to make a film on the book —> process of negotiation. Need a screenplay and a screenplay writer —> always needed. Clashes because the co producers were TV producers, not TV producers. Financing the film: need a business plan. Can pitch the movie idea to production companies (i.e Warner Bros.). Went to an investor who offered $250,000 to film what they desired. The rights were problematic —> channel 4 said they would fund the film. Channel 4 said they would only fund the film if the rights to the book were sold to the film. Danny Boyle and his ‘team’ made a deal of 2% of the film budget go to Noel Gay backing out of the film in return for a share of the profits and name checks on the credits. “Pre-production is whats known as the run...

Low budget film making...

Low budget film making tips: Resource film making: List locations - ask yourself "what access do I have?" List actors - to save money,  you're probably going to have to rely on friends and family If you have experience, then try get some extras in the cast for your film List equipment - i.e. cameras, lights (try to borrow or rent your equipment as this will be cheaper than purchasing brand new technology for your film) List your props - again, see what you or friends/ family already own before you buy new props. See if there are any local events nearby that you could film - this gives you free production value Writing your script: In order to minimise   travel costs, only write about 4-5 locations in your script. Try to use about 4-5 characters as this will make the process of making the film a lot easier Don't create great, theatrical, oscar-worthy roles for your actors as they probably won't have much experience. Keep the roles fitting for your...

Article Summary

Summary from the following article: https://www.theguardian.com/film/2017/may/31/hollywood-and-tv-put-the-squeeze-on-uks-low-budget-film-makers From the article in which I was asked to study I have gathered information on Hollywood blockbusters, and how they are dominating the film industry. The article identifies how large Hollywood franchises are making it more difficult for upcoming independent films to be a success. This is due to the Hollywood movie system becoming increasingly "risk-averse" and the "global explosion" of mega-budget  TV dramas, which is appearing to control over low-budget, independent films. From this article, it is also made apparent that film franchises are prioritised and granted greater budgets resulting in smaller films struggling to do well. A top executive from a main Hollywood studio said "there has always been pressure on the smaller films...". Despite these views, the BFI insist that "small to mid-budget film ...

Types of media mind map

Image
A mind map I created exploring different types of media and how they are made.                                                                                            As part of this unit I was asked to create a mind map that explores different types of production of various media types. From this, I learnt how different types of media have different types of pre-production, production and post- production. This information will be useful in the future if I am asked to further explore production and possibly create my own media.

Introduction

Hey all,  I'm Tahlia and this is my blog! A bit about myself: I am a 16 year old student born and raised in London. I live with my mum, two younger sisters ( Bella and Elora) and my cat (Lulu).  I have a terrible impulse to buy clothes, food and makeup instead of things i actually need. I enjoy horse riding, doing makeup and chilling with my friends.
